  • Dr. Ashraf Ismail, a renowned healthcare expert with over 40 years of experience, is currently the President and CEO of Quality Associates International (QAI), an organization he founded in 2004.

  • He has recently resumed his leadership to it in February 2023, dedicating his extensive expertise to fulfilling its mission in establishing and maintaining healthcare accreditation systems globally, hence the enhancement of the global healthcare services.

  • With more than 25 years of international experience in hospital accreditation, healthcare quality management, performance improvement, and health workforce capacity building, Dr. Ismail's substantial contributions to postgraduate quality education and training have gained worldwide recognition.

  • Dr. Ismail's career spans several key leadership roles.

  • One of his significant leadership milestones was laying the foundation of the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation & Regulation (GAHAR) in Egypt, as its Chairman from October 2018 to January 2023.

  • During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in the development of comprehensive healthcare regulations and accreditation standards in Egypt, aiming at enhancing patient safety and quality of care. and under his leadership, GAHAR made significant strides towards these objectives

  • From 2009 to 2019, he served as the Managing Director for Joint Commission International (JCI) in the Middle East.

  • Under his leadership, the number of accredited organizations increased sevenfold from 50 to 370, reinforcing JCI's standing as the gold standard for healthcare accreditation globally.

  • His academic contributions are noteworthy. As an Adjunct Professor at George Mason University's College of Health and Human Services, he taught various quality courses for the Certificate of Quality and Outcomes Management.

  • He has also served as a consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO) in healthcare quality and accreditation.

  • In 2006, he was appointed as Strategic Planning Advisor to the Minister of Health in the UAE.

  • His consultancy extended from the USA to the Middle East, including a period as a quality consultant to Inova Health System, Northern Virginia's largest health system

  • As a faculty member at Johns Hopkins University and Director of JHPIEGO’s Asia/Near East/Europe Regional office, he led USAID-funded projects to implement family planning, reproductive health, and human resources development in 14 countries, and through a joint project between USAID and the Egyptian Government, he implemented the largest nationwide family planning program in Egypt.
